You're an Amazing Mother

I was the only child up until 2018 where I finally had a baby brother. During my mother's pregnancy, she suffered from diabetes and worried about this affecting the baby. Long story short, he was finally born on September 3rd, 2018. This baby who is now named Isaac brought so much joy to our household; it was insane.

However, my mother and father struggled with taking care of him as they hadn’t had to take care of a baby in 19 years. I, however, weirdly enough knew a lot about my baby brother; what made him upset, what made him happy, what he loved to eat, and how he loved to sleep. This troubled my parents a lot ,especially my mother as she felt like she wasn’t a good mother because she didn’t know how to calm Isaac down when he cried but I did. Raising a child was hard even if there was a full family now imagine doing that all on your own.

When I was working at Dunkin' Donuts, my manager shared with me her struggle of being a single mother and how she had trouble connecting with her children sometimes. She felt like she was a horrible mother because of this, she felt as if her love meant nothing to them. She shared with me that her son wanted a PC for Christmas, and she knew she couldn't afford it. She felt horrible that she couldn't get that for him. During the same time, her daughter wanted a Barbie house set that again is hard to get when having to support a household of 3 with one income.

At the time, she didn’t realize how much of an inspiration she was to me because not only was she dealing with her problems head on and trying her hardest every day to support her children but she also had so much love for her children. She also didn’t realize that her son talked to me and said how much he appreciated her for always trying her hardest and always being there emotionally and physically for them. In her own eyes, she was a horrible mother, but in her children's eyes, she was a super mom that loved unconditionally.

A little while ago, I happened to meet this amazing mother. While I was on a phone call, I saw her walking down the street. At that moment God put it in my heart to let her know she’s amazing, she smiled and said thank you. I then proceeded to ask her if she needed prayers for anything and she said "yes" with a raspy voice, and I saw tears in her eyes. I gave her a hug and asked why she was crying and she said that she just recently moved to Syracuse from Texas because her baby’s father didn’t want to be part of their 2 children’s life. She said she felt like a failure, and at that moment, I was so convicted because she gave me hope. She gave me hope in the love of a mother for her child and how much God loves us through our lifetime.

Anytime that you are feeling like a horrible mother realize that your love is enough. Raising a child is hard - especially on your own - but don’t feel as if you’re a horrible mother. Remember Isaiah 43: 1-2 – “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” God will always be by your side and once you realize how much the father himself loves you, you’ll realize how AMAZING YOU ARE.
