What Ever You Are, Be a Great One

By:  Mission Team March 30, 2021

I happen to be a person that looks at myself as being someone completely worthless. It’s a struggle and a half if I am being perfectly honest. I know that I have worth and that I am someone good and unique made in the image and likeness of God, but my head says that I am a worthless piece of crap.

It's rough, I mean one of the reasons for this self-hatred, is because I think that I can never become anything great or do anything right. Fighting this struggle everyday is hard, and I have to continually remind myself that I have worth, that God loves me for who I am. But knowing something to be true doesn’t mean that you will automatically believe it in your heart.

Your worth is in that you are a son of God and not your work

I put a lot of my self-worth in my work. I think that I suck if my work isn’t the greatest thing ever. I do a lot of work in the media world, especially in videos and audio. When something doesn’t turn out the way I want it to, I get super mad at myself and regret even starting the project. I legit don’t know why, but that is just me I guess.

One day, I had to ask some questions to one of my bosses, and when I was talking to her, my other boss came in. When she entered the room she said, "Alright I'm going to tell you three things:

1) You can use my computer

2) If you are using my computer you have to set it up

3) Your worth is not in your work, but rather in the fact that you are a son of God."

"KABOOM!" That hit me hard, I was literally, like an hour before that meeting, telling one of my bros that I was super struggling with my work and feeling like a complete failure. God however said otherwise. He said that I was good, that I am His son.

 Someone put this up...

One of the missionaries was writing quotes on a chalkboard and would put one of the missionaries' names under the quote. Our job was to write down who said the quote.

The quote that my name was under was from Abraham Lincoln, which said "whatever you are, be a great one". Normally you would look at that and be like, oh that's nice. But for me, it said something more. It was a reminder to me that as I am a son of God, I must live out this life to the fullest, and I must be the best that I can be for the greater glory of God!

A wise man once said...

I recall in my youth, when I would make up stories about superheroes or a great adventure, I would always have the old guy that would help the hero out in his struggle. I would always have the guy be like, "You know, a wise man once said…" One of the words of wisdom that was given to my character when he was feeling hopeless was this, "If you can't do it, then who can? God gave you a specific job that He knows you can do. So what's stopping you from doing it?" And you know you can picture some awesome music in the background of it.

But the thing is that we must do what we are all asked. God has given us a specific job that He knows we can do. God never said that we were pathetic or worthless.

If that was the case, Jesus never would have died for us on the cross. My friends, the point for which I am getting at here is that you all have worth, and it's in that you are a child of God, not in what you say or do, but in that God loves you more than you could ever imagine. God bless peeps!
