It is an app that has built a community of people trying to become what my generation would call “TikTok Famous”.
Some would say that this can wreck a person by messing with their mental health, thinking they need to be a certain way to be accepted through the number of views, likes, or followers their account may get. For me, at the beginning that was my goal when I decided to join the app during my quarantine life, but then I realized how the app works.
Once you get the app you have two main pages to watch videos; the Following Page and the For You page. Your Following Page shows videos posted by those you follow and the For You Page is the feed of videos the app generates based on the things you double click on. When I first joined the app, I was double-clicking all the funny videos and trending dances that would bring me joy but weren’t really filling me.

So I then started looking around and started to see some Christian posts on my feed, so I began to double click on those. I then realized how the app works. Your “For You Page” is based off of the things you like or may be associated with. So a thought came to my head and so many things began to click. Now it was time for me to take action on all these things.

So I began to take my account to a whole new level by instead of fitting into the culture, I began to introduce a culture. As time went on, I began to produce on average 1 or 2 videos a day. These videos I would create had a purpose and a meaning behind them to lift people up and not bring them down. I began to introduce my TikTok circle to Jesus. Yes, you heard me right, I began using my account to spread positivity and the gospel message.
I would record videos using famous sounds that normally would have a different meaning to it, but I would add a little Christian touch to it. My account began to boom; it wasn’t a huge amount of followers, but the number of likes was kind of crazy.
To be honest it was nice to get lots of likes and gain new followers, but that didn’t really phase me. What brought me the most joy through this was knowing that a 15 second clip could bring a smile to their face and a small encounter with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I wanted to help that girl know that she is not alone and that she is not what her past tells her she has to be. There is hope through the struggles and mistakes and that is my goal to spread to my generation of young adults who struggle with the identity the world gives them.

A few mistakes for me in high school left me getting pinned as the “party girl”, and this is the case for most people my age. This starts a downward spiral of believing that lie and allowing it to become your identity. Through this experience, it allowed me to see I was more than what people said about me, that I did not have to identify myself with what they said. I know that I am a daughter of God, who does have a past, but that I am made new. Now my mission is to allow others to believe that for themselves.
There is no method on how to bring the gospel, heck the apostles thousands of years ago would just walk and talk, and that's it. We need to get creative people. The world is kind of chaotic right now and we are the ones who need to look it in the eye and no longer be afraid. We need each other through times like these. So let's go out and make a unique difference in this world.
