Proving Your Love with Trust: A Wiki-How

By:  Mission Team April 27, 2021

Ok, there aren’t many things I hate but I’m about to go off on something I really do hate. I hate it when people say they don’t trust someone. I don’t care if you want to know why, I’m going to write about it anyway! But especially people they don’t know that well. Like seriously, what have they ever done to you?

Why are you taking out your own issues on them? People will say “oh I don’t trust them because they’re going to let me down” or “I’ve been burned in the past”. Awesome, so you do trust them then! You trust in their humanity and that they will fail! Odds are we all probably are going to let someone down at some point - it’s called being human! If you put them in a situation where you know they will fail, that’s on you - not on them! Maybe this is a flawed line of thinking but here goes. You can yell at me later.

People who claim they have “trust issues” are just putting their own issues on other people, saying it’s because they have had their trust broken before. Well, I’m going to say what everyone else is thinking. QUIT MAKING EXCUSES! We all are going to get hurt in our lives! some more than others. But regardless, you have power over it! You can let being hurt control you or you can use it to love and trust even more!

Hurt people hurt people. But it doesn’t have to be that way! If you have been hurt, you don’t have to take it out on someone else by not trusting them. Our Lord calls us to Love everyone; by not trusting someone you are saying you’re going to hold back and not love someone to the fullest you can. At the end of the day, it is taking away from your humanity by letting yourself not trust someone. By trusting, you become more fully human.

So here is my Wiki how on trust:

Step 1: Choose Love

Make the choice right now to Love them. But not just kind of. Say it out loud! Love them with everything you’ve got! Our time here on this earth is short so we don’t have time to do things halfway. Decide right now to love them intensely and with everything you’ve got! Plus who knows who you can heal just by loving them. 1 Peter 4:8 says “Let your love for one another be intense for love covers a multitude of sins”.

 Step 2: Don’t Judge

If you judge someone off their past actions and assume they can’t change then you are playing God and that’s not a game you want to play. Let go of the judgment and anger in your heart. Believe in the person!

 Step 3: Pray for Courage

If you are scared... good! that means you have even more of an incentive to go to God. When you're scared to love someone, try praying for courage. If what you desire is good and true (which desiring to love someone is) then our Lord will grant it. Sometimes (myself included) people have been really hurt in their past so having mercy, trusting, and loving people isn’t something you can do on your own. Recognize your weakness and go to God.

In him all things are possible. Say “I can’t do this Jesus, you do this” He will transform your heart, as Ezekiel 36:26 says “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Believe it!

Step 4: Trust in God

If you are struggling to trust someone, go back to step 3 but this time realize that you have to trust God. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” -Proverbs 3:5-6

Step 5: Do It

Perhaps you've heard the phrase: “Never wait until the funeral to tell someone how much they mean to you”, well the same goes for trust. This life is fleeting and there isn't time to live with regrets. So just do it! Be not afraid to love others. Prove your love by trusting them!

Step 6: Trust but Verify

Do not let your fear get in the way of trusting someone. However if you are putting someone in a situation where they might let you down, don't be a fool. Trust them but hold them accountable. If you love them then you won't want them to let you down. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Remember you’re amazing and what you do matters. Whether or not you believe it you have a choice to make. You can use the power of your humanity to love others and transform lives or you can use it to hurt others. Trust is just one way you can use how amazing you are to impact others lives.

“When I am afraid I put my trust in you” -Psalm 56:3
