Episode #1 Top 5 Greatest Sports Movies
Sports movies have an incredible amount of similarity to the Gospel. They convey a story of an underdog gaining the victory, and there is something within the human heart that yearns for that kind of storyline.

Our faith lives follow a similar story arch. We are all underdogs in the competition to win the ultimate victory, heaven. It is only by the miracle of Christ’s grace that we can get there. Every time we are tempted to be discouraged in our faithwalk, we can remember that we were meant to be underdogs so of course the journey is tough. Trust in the Lord.

”For human beings this (i.e., entering heaven) is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Episode #2 5 Reasons Not to Cancel the NFL
At first glance, this may seem like an extremely stupid thing to argue about. Who cares about football at the end of the day? Does a professional sport really matter that much? But Justin Fatica brings up five reasons for not cancelling football that have one thing in common.

Football and sports in general make us better human beings. Only by becoming a better human being can we get closer to being a saint. Grace elevates nature. If your nature (which is human I assume) is shabby, your shot of being a saint is miniscule. So do things that strengthen your humanity (like sports) and grow closer to sainthood.

Episode #3 Lebron vs. Jordan
Justin Fatica treds the dangerous waters of a debate that has been raging for about a decade. Is Lebron James or Michael Jordan a better basketball player? Many people who side with Jordan look at the stat that Michael is 6-0 in the NBA Finals and Lebron is only 3-5. Justin looks deeper at the stats books and sides with Lebron.

What does this have to do with our faith, you may ask. The answer: a lot. Life is not about the externally grand results. The real results that matter are not the most noticeable. Jesus teaches us that by His Cross. From an earthly perspective, Jesus’s ministry before the Resurrection was not very effective. It lasted for about two years and ended abruptly with his disciples being dispersed by their religious leaders and the government. But those results do not matter. What matters is doing the will of the Father.

“I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.” (John 6:38)

Episode #4 Top 5 NBA Basketball Players in the 80’s
Justin highlights a major Christ-like aspect in the player he picked for the greatest basketball player in the 80’s. He says teamwork is an aspect of this player’s game that separates him. This player demonstrated an ability not just to shine individually but also to enable his teammates to shine as well.

Jesus is the ultimate example of this. He could have come to earth, showed us how to live the perfect human life, and then leave us hanging. But in His mercy He has made every effort to make us like Himself. By the Son, we have become sons and are invited to participate in His work of rendering all of creation back to the Father. Praise Jesus for His merciful desire for teamwork.
