Grace: It's a Free Gift!

By:  Justin Fatica April 12, 2021

The grace of God lives and breathes; it’s around us every day. The best part is that it’s a FREE gift! The grace of God speaks through all of us in every situation and in every avenue of our lives.

Grace is given to us by God. Ephesians 2:8-10 says “for by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.” Isn’t God’s free gift amazing?

The more we allow God to love us, the more love He will give us. At the Annunciation, Our Lady allowed God to love her more than anyone else on earth through her yes. Mark 9:23 says “Anything is possible for one who has faith!” This faith that our Lady had allowed for the great grace of bringing Jesus into the world.

I have an acronym for grace that breaks down the word and reveals to us how God loves us by giving us this free gift.

G — Good news that never ends. There is good news for us if we want to receive it.
R — Reason for our hope. Grace shows us how to be hopeful in all situations.
A — Apple of God’s eye. Grace shows us that we are the apple of God’s eye.
C — Called even though we aren’t qualified. God calls us and then qualifies us through grace.
E — Everyone can receive this free gift from God. It’s not just for a few, it’s for everyone!

How do we receive this grace? We receive grace through our families, through our shame, through our joys and sorrows. Everything we do is a chance to receive God’s grace. Every interaction or situation in life is an opportunity to accept grace from God like Our Lady did at the Annunciation. Even if it’s hard, confusing or messy, everything is a chance for grace.

We must persevere through the battles of our mind, our physical illnesses, our stress and anxiety. God is so good, that He wants to give us grace in advance. It’s not about us. We will never do enough or be enough to deserve this grace. But God sends grace to us in advance before we do anything. He gives the same grace to each person, regardless of what you have done, or what you will do. That’s the You’re Amazing message! It’s not about what you do to receive grace; it’s about who you are. The grace comes in advance because of who we are!

Take Action!

Go to confession this week and allow God to take your sins and turn them into grace through His mercy.

Pray:

Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for me on the cross. I’m sorry I’ve doubted You. Jesus, I’m sorry for all of my sins. Change the direction of my life, and give me the grace You desire to give me. I surrender to You and give my life over to You.
