Air Force Ones Save Lives

By:  Mission Team March 21, 2021

My first thought was "$120, that’s insane!" I could never, but then I came to Hard as Nails, and saw the importance and need for them. So I made that courageous step for suffering souls and purchased a pair of Air Force Ones. So now I know you’re definitely confused on what I am talking about. How could a pair of expensive shoes save suffering souls?

As a missionary, we travel across the country putting on events at various schools, parishes, and groups. We meet lots of people who are suffering and facing similar struggles that we as missionaries have faced or are currently facing. In order for us to make a connection with these people, we especially meet the youth through different encounters. These could be of many different things in common that sparks between the two of you, or if you have a clothing item that sparks their interest, or they are wearing it too. Well, that is what happened to me at several of our events.

Let me paint a picture for you… you are standing by a door, welcoming people into an event. These people are confused as to what is happening because there is loud music, big screens, and footballs being tossed in the air. They are trying to get a sense of their surroundings, so they can try to figure out what the heck is happening. They then happen to look down at the ground and see your awesome white kicks. Then they realize they have the same shoes, so they say something to you. In that moment they realize that you are actually somewhat of a cool person. Then a conversation begins.

Who would have thought that shoes could be the thing that brings people to Jesus, but it does. You see, it is something that is relevant to the culture, and it sparks the eye of the young generation. My generation and the younger put a label on Christians as “Jesus Freaks''. And what does this mean? This generation depicts Christians as if they come straight out of the bible that they are old, traditional, and irrelevant. They don’t see someone who invests in Air Force Ones as the type to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

In reality, we are just like them and we have cool shoes. So it is honestly the best of both worlds, and extends an invitation to them, asking if we can walk with them on their journey. The shoes are what sparks the common interest, opening the door to a beautiful relationship with someone. It now gives them a chance to have someone in their corner rooting for them every step of the way, but also introducing them to their biggest fan, Jesus Christ.

Christ uses us as his hands and feet in this world, so we need to be relevant to the culture around us in order to actually connect with them. Our style can be the thing that brings them closer to His heart. It is an invasion to allow the King of Kings to dance with his children. He wants to know you and show you the big plans He has in store for your life. Accept His invitation and allow the girl with Air Force Ones to come into your life to show you the beautiful One that is in store for you.
