3 Steps to Stay Strong

Most of the time I end letters or notes to people with the words, “Stay Strong!” What is it that I mean by that? Well, when I say it, there are three main reasons for it. I am encouraging the person to keep the faith, trust in God, and trust in others.

1. Keep the Faith

The faith is something that we as Catholics must hold onto with all our might. We must never lose sight of the faith; we must never lose hope in the faith. When I say “stay strong” I am saying that if the time comes and someone wants to kill you because of your faith, you will above all else stand up for it and never back down from it.

When I was Confirmed, the saint that I picked to be my Confirmation saint was St. Ignatius of Antioch. This saint was an early Church martyr, and an early Bishop. (It is quite possible that he was one of the kids that sat with Jesus when He was teaching the children.) St. Ignatius said that he would rather die than give up his faith. He was eaten by lions, but he accepted his fate, even though it meant death. So I say this to all Catholics alike. Stay strong! Do not falter in your faith!

2. Trust in God

Now this is something that people struggle with a lot! Putting complete trust in God is something that is not all too easy because the lies of the devil and the world give us doubt in God’s infinite power. When I first started to drive, I would zone out very easily, and my Guardian Angel saved me one day by yanking the wheel from me and stopping me from ramming into a semi-truck.

From that day on, my trust in God has become that much stronger. I am indeed perpetually afraid of what might happen, but in the heat of the moment, I will not give into fear, for I know that God has my back. Trust in God, trust in His saving power. God will not forsake you. So why should you forsake Him?

3. Trust in Others

This is my favorite part of why I say stay strong, especially because I struggle tons with it myself. You see our trust in each other is very slim, we hardly ever trust anybody to do much for us at all. We can never take someone's word for something, there always needs to be a second opinion or something of the sort. So I say trust in others, if the person is indeed not trustworthy, then that's different.

We need to start giving people the benefit of the doubt! We need to see the good that is in others and not consider them a future mess-up. Trust those around you to be not looking for your worst interests. It's hard, but it's something that we all need to grow in, and this can start by giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Here is a Challenge for You

To finish off, I just want to challenge you. Today make a commitment to deepen your faith, maybe say some extra prayers, or do some spiritual reflection or reading. Converse with God today and build up your relationship with Him!

And finally, when you find yourself doubting the abilities of someone else and you fall into not wanting to trust them, ask God for the strength to trust that person! Say a prayer for that person that they will be able to accomplish the task at hand. Prayer is super powerful. Stay Strong my friends! Until next time, God Bless!
